A body’s circulatory system is responsible for sending blood, oxygen, and nutrients all over the human shell. When blood flow to a certain part of your body is reduced, you may experience the symptoms of having a poor blood circulation. This commonly happens in your extremes such as your legs and arms.

There are many supplements and small equipment that can help you treat poor circulation. In fact, products like this are available on Halo Health.

Poor blood circulation is not a condition in itself because it is actually the result of other health issues. Therefore, you should consider treating the primary causes, rather than finding a cure for the symptoms alone. A lot of health conditions can lead to poor circulation of the blood. The most common causes include cardiovascular diseases, arterial issues, obesity, and diabetes.

Causes of Poor Blood Circulation

  • Diabetes

Diabetes is commonly associated with blood sugar levels, but it can also cause poor blood circulation in specific parts of your body. This may cause cramping in your legs, as well as pain in your lower back, calves, thighs, or buttocks. This cramping may frequently happen especially when you are physically active. Patients with acute diabetes may have difficulty detecting signs of poor blood circulation. This is because diabetic neuropathy can cause a poor sensation in the extremities.

Apart from affecting the blood circulation, diabetes can also lead to heart and blood vessel problems. This can also cause an increased risk for atherosclerosis, hypertension, and heart diseases.

  • Obesity

Obesity is a condition wherein a patient carries extra pounds on his body. Being overweight makes sitting, standing or walking for hours difficult that may also lead to poor blood circulation problems.

An overweight person can have varicose veins and blood vessel problems.

  • Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are enlarged veins mainly caused by valve failure. The veins may appear distorted and puffy, they are mostly found on the back of the legs. Compared to healthy veins, varicose can’t move blood efficiently.

Your genes determine whether or not you’ll develop varicose veins. It is usually hereditary if you have an immediate relative or family member that has varicose veins, your risk is higher. Overweight and obese women are most likely to develop them.

  • Peripheral artery disease

Peripheral artery disease or PAD can cause poor blood circulation in your legs. It is a circulatory condition that leads to narrow blood vessels and arteries. This is also associated with atherosclerosis wherein arteries stiffen due to plaque build-up in the arteries and blood vessels. Both illnesses decrease blood flow to your extremities and can result in pain.

Reduced blood flow in your extremities can cause numbness, tingling, nerve damage, and tissue damage. If ignored and left untreated, poor blood flow may result in a stroke.

Poor blood circulation is easier to treat when detected early. If a person does not receive a treatment they may develop serious diseases that can cause life-threatening complications such as blood clots and infected skin ulcers.

Don’t forget to consult your doctor and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
